Chevy 350 in 54 Merc Sun Valley
Any motor mount kits or IFS kits for Chevy 350 that will go into this somewhat smoothly? Some say Im destroying a rare car but I want to be able to buy replacement parts locally and not from some unknown a thousand miles away, and with questionable reliability to worry about <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |

Why not sell your Mercury to someone who will keep it as Ford built it? Then buy yourself a Chevy for "reliability". <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |

Re: Chevy 350 in 54 Merc Sun Valley
In a ways I agree with both--I know where hes coming from as I had the same thing. The 1954 has a bunch of one year only parts that are no longer available even from the aftermarket, such as fuel pump, cam bearings, oil pump kits, rear end gears and some others. So I put a 327 in my 54 wagon and never have a problem getting parts for it <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |

yikes...that was brutal..but I can understand what he (michael) wants..I myself just purchased a restored 54 mercury (traded a 2 owner 57 chev Bel Air hardtop w/factory dual fours that I had owned for over 20 years)...well at 70 mph it felt very uncomfortable....but, when I,m finished it will cruise effortlessly at 85...no its not as Ford made it....its better ! <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |

I don't know what 5 mph extra means to you, but I can assure you from personal experience that back in 1955, that a stock white/red leather interior/white top 1954 Mercury convertible will cruise at 80 all day long without breathing hard. Before interstate highways, which took all the fun out of driving. Phooey on Chevy. <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |

Re: Chevy 350 in 54 Merc Sun Valley
You can put any small block Ford (302-351), any FE (332-428)in it with all stock Ford parts that you can buy any O'REiley's, Auto Zone, etc. A 5.0 from a late model Mustang will hold it's own with any garden variety 350 Chevy. The 5.0 will run longer, faster and cheaper than the Chevy, and is more dependable. I'm running one with 164,000 miles that has had 1 water pump, 1 serpentine belt and 1 ignition module. But then again, go ahead and put the Chevy in it, everybody need one piece of crap in their life. <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |
