Default Rear axle inspection

The rear axle in my 34 may have been rebuilt. No one is really sure. Is there things I can check without taking it apart? I want to know if it is OK to run. It is quiet when I turn it over.
Thanks

Drain the oil through a fine strainer, follow with light oil as a wash. If anything gruesome is going on in your diff, you'll see the evidence in your strainer.

Good idea. Are there any tolerance checks that can be done?
Thanks

As mentioned. Drain it and refill with fresh gear oil. Drive it. If there are no unusual noises just keep driving it.There is really nothing you can check without opening it up.

Which is not a minor activity...
