That was painful to look at. Hope no one was hurt. The shot of that Merc breaks my heart.

Re: What a shame!
VeryTangled started a post about this topic. Jeff was at the meet along with JM and Glenn Sanders. They had many photos in the post.

Re: What a shame!
Hi Everyone, I too am sad for all the people involved.
I didn't hear the 100mph wind number prior to this. Cragun's reported they were 75% open on Friday, but I'm sure they were very hurt to see their resort in such a state, of course through a weather event, no fault of their own. I hadn't thought of this before, but the tree-clearing operation probably wasn't too different from a similar snow clearing job I bet they have done before. They were on the case in a big way, to get (almost) everyone feeling better ASAP. I guess I should be a little ticked that Old Cars used photos from this forum without revealing it! See #13 here... https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...3273&showall=1 To be clarify, I took the last photo in the Old Cars posting, of the rear of the Nielen's Merc with the tree still on it. FordBarner, and my road buddy, LBs 37V8, took the second photo, the one of the Mercury without the tree on it. He kindly shared the photo with me shortly after he took it. When I posted it, I didn't make it clear that I wasn't the creator of all the things in the post. The first photo of the Alinder's 1947 Wagon is a new one to me. I didn't see that when I was on site, not totally surprised.

Re: What a shame!
And that is why you should always transport your car in an enclosed trailer ..
Severe weather including hail is a threat year round ... Jim |

Re: What a shame!
Hi Everyone, I can't agree more, having a Phaeton, which is definitely not an all-weather car, WITH a three-year old top that I'm trying to keep nice, I love having my enclosed trailer (mini-garage) nearby. After this event, my mini-garage has a few leaks in the roof.
I really love driving this car, but don't want to think about the after effects of a nice rainstorm on it's condition. I'm sure it's been rained on before, but I don't want to have to dry it out. LB's 37V8, and Glenn Sanders had their vehicles in trailers too and although the trailers took a bit of a whipping, the vehicles were safe. JM had his '35 Fordor in the same lot as my tow vehicle, and there were branches down in the space next to him. There was one fella with an open trailer, and I'm happy his car was not on it during the storm. These two photos are by 'Barner Frank Miller.

Unfortunately, some who did transport their car/truck there in trailers, had them out of their trailers and parked in various places around the hotel when the storm hit. Some of these vehicles were among the damaged. Who could have possibly anticipated something like this happening so quickly? I talked with folks who grew up in/around Brainerd, and they said they had never seen a storm anything like this one before.

Re: What a shame!
John,
I used to transport on an open trailer until about (4) years ago ... I will never go back to an open trailer. Every year the weather is getting worse - there are viloent thunderstorms occurring in areas where that never was an issue in the past. In April of this year I left Wendover, NV in 75 degree weather headed west along I-80 and within 45 minutes the temperature dropped 40 degrees ... It began to snow & hail .... Jim |

Those two photos are of a good friend of ours from Ohio. That is a new aluminum F-150 he purchased just a few months ago. He reported that it had very little damage. He had unloaded his beautiful '52 Convertible off that trailer a few hours before the storm. Lucky! Although I feared his trailer was crushed, it had almost no damage. Ken p.s. Thanks for the phone charge!

"Too bad it wasn't a Toyota meet." Like it or not they are car people too! No ones car should get crushed like these were. Real shame in any case.
