Signal-stat 900 turn signal on positive ground
I am installing an older stat 900 in a 36 pickup positive ground. I have read some have had problems with he indicator light not working. I haven't tested mine yet. Anyone with experience with this type of signal, Please chime in. Thanks Ron

Re: Signal-stat 900 turn signal on positive ground
I have a 5007R in my '46 Coupe when I bought it, and the indicator didn't work. A bit of troubleshooting, and reading posts on this site and the EFV8 site, led me to the problem. A previous owner had installed a Hella 6V flasher, which I changed out for a 535 6V flasher, and the indicator now works. Don't ask me what the difference is in the two flashers. One other thing I did, because I can't hear the little click of the flasher at my age, was to install a small 6V buzzer up under the dash. I went to ground with one lead, and the blue (on my unit) wire for the power. It works great, but I had to put tape over 2/3 of the buzzer opening, as it was a bit too loud.

Re: Signal-stat 900 turn signal on positive ground
I'm running Signal Stats on both of my old vehicles . The indicator light works on one but not the other. I attributed the non operational version to the 'as-is' seller description. The units have otherwise been flawless.

FourtyNiner. The indicator light quit working on mine after a while, so I opened the switch body to see if I could change the bulb. What I found was the wire that is connected to the indicator light socket had broken off. The reason is, that the wire flexes every time the signal lever is moved between positions. I re-soldered the wire and problem solved.
Lawson. Just add more tape. |

Re: Signal-stat 900 turn signal on positive ground
The broken wire to the indicator light seems to be a common problem with the 900. I put a green LED light in the dash and wired direct to the flasher. Much easier to see as the steering wheel can block the indicator light in the signal unit.

That's what I do, except use an old time crystal cut lens on the light. Found some LED bulbs that fit the sockets.

This buzzer it what I put on my ‘41, had to cover the hole with a piece of tape as it was too annoying.

Re: Signal-stat 900 turn signal on positive ground
I’ve got a 900 series on my truck. Initially dismayed about the indicator light as it either didn’t work at all or they didn’t flash...... I can’t remember which. I changed out the original flasher unit when it failed for the heavy duty part number. The indicators work fine now.
EL13 is the HD flasher I used. Last edited by 1948F-1Pickup; 04-16-2021 at 08:45 PM. |

Re: Signal-stat 900 turn signal on positive ground
Make sure your turn signal bulbs are large enough to make the Flasher operate.
Drove me nuts trying to figure the problem out. |
