Re: 32-34 Tie Rod End Adjustment
The basic tool I made above will fit between the backing plate and the end of the tie rod enabling adjustment to be made.

Re: 32-34 Tie Rod End Adjustment
Wasnt there a firm at one time making up the ball joint two half inserts out of some material other than steel so it would be trying make the steering easier.

Re: 32-34 Tie Rod End Adjustment
When I built my last 32 pickup I found some ball joint halves that were brass impregnated. I used them and they seemed to work alright. I may have seen some I believe that were Teflon lined?

Re: 32-34 Tie Rod End Adjustment
I installed E-Z Steer Teflon seats in the tie rod and drag links on my '34 roadster and both Model A's around 10 or 15 years ago. I grease them regularly and they make the cars much easier to steer. I'm going on 89 now and I don't think I would enjoy driving the cars much without them. I think that I bought them from from C&G, Snyder's or Bratton's.

Re: 32-34 Tie Rod End Adjustment
Just in case this has not been mentioned.
Agree on tightening them tight and backing off NO MORE than 1 turn. Really cuts down on "death wobble". That said be sure to check for binding as any wear on balls will cause serious issues this tight. |
