Re: Strange metal welded to torque tube
Looks like a handy kick stand. LOL. Was it on the torque tube when installed in the car or is this a new unit you bought?
If so, I'd would assume someone did that for storage. I'd bet it had wheels in it while being stored. |

Re: Strange metal welded to torque tube
Strange animal with no good purpose. By the way, that’s bar stock, not angle iron.

Re: Strange metal welded to torque tube
I don't see how it could possibly avoid striking the underside of the car's floor with any sort of up and down movement of the rear axle.

David, the piece was pointed toward the ground. I’m surprised it didn’t catch on something when I drove it this past fall, just got the car on Labor Day.

Flat stock around here. Bar stock is round.

Re: Strange metal welded to torque tube
Tim,
Ah, it's only upright in the photo. Yes, you're lucky to remove it now before it does catch on something when your car is moving. |

Re: Strange metal welded to torque tube
I'm not sure what we have here. Although what comes to mind is a single anti chatter rod maybe to attach to the cross member ?

Re: Strange metal welded to torque tube
I would venture a guess and say it was used for a parking brake cable anchor, but it needs to go. Tim

Re: Strange metal welded to torque tube
If a previous owner converted to juice brakes, he needed a bracket for the parking brake cable. . Ford had a bracket attachment where the radius rods attach to the torque tube. This one looks way to long and maybe bent hitting some object.

Re: Strange metal welded to torque tube
Yeah, we cut if off. There were some very poor welds holding it on.
