I have a Model T 1927 Truck... Now what?
This was given to me for money owed. It is registered and drivable but my taste starts at 1966 and I would like to sell. Other than a massive cleaning... Where do I start?
Oil spot is NOT from the Model T... |

What is a good source to use when assigning a value to this vehicle? What specific pictures do you guys need to asses the originality of this vehicle? Any info would be greatly appreciated...

Turn the gas on, put the spark lever up, throttle halfway down, turn the key to BATT, and step on the starter button with your left heel. Pull the choke for two revolutions, after it starts, pull the spark down and turn the key to MAG and drive it away!
If the guy owed you $7K you did good. $5K you did real good. $3K you better put an extra $50 on the plate next sunday! ws

Re: I have a Model T 1927 Truck... Now what?
I agree with Bill on the prices. From the pictures it appears the truck is complete, correct, and in pretty good shape. If I had space, time, and money for another T I'd make an offer.

Steve, I thought it looked like a 26/27 car. I can not see rear end, so it could have the small pickup type bed back there.

Yep, it's a roadster/pickup (car chassis), not a TT.

Re: I have a Model T 1927 Truck... Now what?
It probably started out as a roadster & had the pickup bed installed. Note the top saddles. A RPU top does not go down. This is not a bad thing, the option to lower the top just makes it more fun.
A good picture of the "bun panel" area will confirm this.

Re: I have a Model T 1927 Truck... Now what?
This one does look to be an original Ford RPU. If you look at the 2nd to last picture with the rear 3/4 view. The filler plates between the bed and the pick up box are there. If there had been a turtle deck installed at some point there would be a punched hole in the back of the body about 2 inches down from the bottom of the top, next to the seam where the back panel and the body meet. It looks to have the correct bun panels in it, if they were the roadster ones there would be a bead running vertically right where that filler plate between the box and body ends. This looks to have the longer panels in it. Also, all roadsters have the mounting points for top saddles installed inside of the body. If they were destined to be RPU's there were simply rubber plugs placed into the holes in the body panels. Someone could have easily taken them out and put in the top saddles.

Re: I have a Model T 1927 Truck... Now what?
Jack... there two pics that show the back of the tub with the "joint" panel or cover closing the gap to the bed and body. It appears to run from the joint to the rear fender to cover that body frame rail. Isnt that indicative of a correct bun panel? At least it wasnt a cut off touring car.
I also always thought that the soft top trucks were always drop tops as well. Not so? ws

Re: I have a Model T 1927 Truck... Now what?
I think you are both correct. On close inspection you can see the bun panel in the picture below. The picture from Howell's catalog shows the rib that would be on a roadster panel. The lack of the hole near the top is conclusive as well. As I understand it the top on a RPU was not intended to be put down thus no saddles were installed.

Re: I have a Model T 1927 Truck... Now what?
My 27 Runabout's registration stated that it is a " Runabout with a Box ". So as I see it is a Runabout (car) with a Box (pickup) as noted by the rear panel between the bun panels. It has the trunk and I guess the Box got separated some how. Just my observation.
PS: When I registered it in NY they changed it to a Two Door Convertible. Go figure. |

Re: I have a Model T 1927 Truck... Now what?
This car came from the factory as a Roadster, as it clearly shows the back seat Panel.
When they came as Roadsters, they had the back panel with the embossed area on the back. as far as the holes, they would be behind the pickup bed, or they might have got filled when they painted if they were using a box. When a pickup came from the factory, the back of the seat panel was smooth, with no emboss. They never had the bolt holes. |

Re: I have a Model T 1927 Truck... Now what?
I know they sell the roadster pickup seat panel without the embossed rib and the different bun panels, but I have never seen an actual 26-7 T roadster pickup with the smooth panel. I do believe that is correct with the smooth panel but I have never seen one. Anyone have pics of one that is original?

Re: I have a Model T 1927 Truck... Now what?
You guys have gotten past my working knowledge of this... at about reply number 7... Are you saying this was originally a Roadster that some one converted to a truck or that this was a factory/dealer conversion?
Thanks again. |

Re: I have a Model T 1927 Truck... Now what?
When purchased new you can buy a (pickup) with a Box in the back and no reveal in the seat panel or you can purchase a car (runabout) with a trunk (turtle deck) and a Box that can be put in it's place when the trunk is removed and use it as a pickup as yours seams to be set up as. Some how the trunk (turtle deck) has been lost. I hope this explains it. JMHO !!!!

Re: I have a Model T 1927 Truck... Now what?
My brother was in the exact same boat as you. He was owed money and got a T huckster as payment. He called me and asked me the same questions as you and like you he tastes were muscle cars. Well after a quick lesson in driving he was so intrigued with how it started and how the transmission worked, how you really drive a T and your not just a passenger that steers, etc, he kept the truck and goes to shows with it instead of his other cars. Drive it around a little, as with my brother, it may grow on you!

As far as "how much cash" that is part of what I am trying to determine with this thread. I would accept a fair cash offer, but I don't need to short sell it....

So after 2 weeks you still can't figure a price and you want offers. Sounds like an auction to me.

I am not trying to piss anyone off and not trying to auction it... I have not even gotten it fully cleaned up and ready for sell... I was just saying that I am not hurting or in a hurry, but I would accept a fair offer....
I do appreciate all the info you guys have given me. |

"I'll up you $500 and pay in $100 bills, less bulk." Ill up it 500 more and do paypal right now! ws

I'll match that and I could be there tomorrow with trailer and $100 bills. That just might trump Paypal for him as he couldn't get the money transferred into another account for 3-4 days. LOL

Just think of all the trouble of double side copying on the laser printer. Id print them upside down just to mess with 'em. Then theres the quality paper you need... too many logistics! ws

I probably would not turn down 10 grand cash... 5s 10s 20s 100s.... as long as there are no 50s.... they are bad luck.

Re: I have a Model T 1927 Truck... Now what?
Bill is just about where this truck should be priced. Pristeen, restored, up & running 26/27 RPU vehicles seem to be selling at around $12,000. This one could take half that or more to be in the same category.

Re: I have a Model T 1927 Truck... Now what?
I was going through some past auction from last Summer and found Pristine models going for 20 grand plus.... Seems even if it took 6 grand to put this one right and 10 grand to buy it... would still leave a 4 grand margin....
As soon as I get a good warm weekend, I will roll it out and clean it up, and see what shakes out at the local shows. Thanks for the info and the 5k offers but seems like I could part it out for more than that. |

Re: I have a Model T 1927 Truck... Now what?
I did see the BJ auction results as well, unfortunately I have trouble believing in Santa Calus as well.
There are more sales like the Auburn 2011 one that seem a little more real; Auburn Spring May 13-15, 2011 Lot No. 130 Sold for $ 8,250 This 1927 Ford Model T Roadster Pickup represents an older restoration that remains in excellent mechanical condition today, starting, running, and driving as a proper Model T should. Features incude all-steel body panels, as well as new wiring and a new battery and starter.

Re: I have a Model T 1927 Truck... Now what?
Now for me, if the owner wouldnt pull the incorrect <1925 motor and discount the rest, Id walk right past it... This one is owned by a 90 year old dame in town, Mabel, and she drives it all the time! ws
This is a matching number car. She was widowed 30 years ago, and her husband swore he'd never let her learn to drive. She always wanted a model T roadster and bought this with his life insurance money, then learned to drive AND drive a T to boot. I guess she showed him! BTW... she does her own work on it at 90!
