In NM it is a flat 3% on any vehicle transfer, when you go to title it. It used to be based on the price recorded on the BOS, but cheating was so blatant and rampant that they changed it to use KBB value. So every MVD agent is a certified car appraiser?!?!?! I don't think so. I've heard horror stories.

Not sure what they use for older cars "officially" but from what I've heard, it is whatever they think it should be.

Still, there's no one to blame but the skinflints who claimed $2000 for an '06 Porsche or M-B. I've had buyers ask me to put as low as $500 for a classic Triumph Bonneville, fully restored. I refuse to do it.

Thanks for that! Now that this thread is back on the rails how about the Sportsman wood kit that was essential to that car? The wagon involved in the sale I expect would have brought 25/35K depending on the crazies present!!

Is it possible that the wood kit went with the car at $52K? That would have made it a pretty good deal.

Yes, $25 if you buy from a private individual but not if you buy from a "dealer".

I found this out the hard way.

Still a major project, the car is solid the wood is workable someone should be happy with the end result. Good luck to the new owner... Bill
