Default Steering Column Bearing

My friend has a '36 Phaeton and he asked me to post the following; He replaced the rubber bushing on the steering column just under the steering wheel. Recently the steering has gotten tight. He squirted some lubricant under the horn button which worked for a short time. He read an old article that showed replacing the rubber bushing with one that had a bearing and was called a Dans bearing. Does anyone have any information on this product? It is supposed to improve the steering. All replies are appreciated. Stan.

There are several ways to do this so you will get a lot of responses. Many local hardware stores carry a replacement "wheel barrow" bearing which can be used. Or,(a better way), some Ford dealers still stock parts C3DZ-3517A and B1AZ-3518A. In either case the cost is much less than $10. Note the pictures. The pencil view is the hardware bearing, the others are of the Ford bearing. The best part is you don't need a deep pocket.

I have the Brusegard bearing in mine. Works like as charm. More expensive than the wheelbarrow gizmo however.
