Well if you like restomods and I personally don’t, but if a rich sugga momma said that I have one I guess Jonathan Ward’s $400k “derelicts” would suit me just fine! . Most of his builds are not electric as far as I know. But if you’re catering to that climatel you automatically need to offer the option. And seeing and listening to him , I’m sure he fancies it in his own enlarged ego space, as a marvelous accomplishment.

Well, that is Free-Market Capitalism!
Your fear of him passing along his "affliction" to another generation is probably misplaced. It is doubtful that he has sufficient male hormones to be of any real threat. ( This humor/ sarcasm--no need to be all offended)

I like the appearance. They actually made the "engine" somewhat resemble finned aluminum flatheads. Still can't beat the sound of a flathead though. There is a good video of the 49 "Icon derelict" Merc on Jay Leno's channel.

I read Neil Young's book entitled 'Long may you run'. A couple of things popped out to me. 1) He revels in having his own personal wrecking yard on his California acreage and among other vehicles are pretty much every car or truck he's ever owned. 2) He did a lot of work on electrifying big American cars back when that was not at all common. With help from his friends he converted an early 60s Lincoln Continental and drove it across the country. Before he left he arranged a high level meeting with engineers and executives at the Ford Motor Company who welcomed him. For me, I was thinking about going electric with my last tonner chassis.... But then I remembered I was gonna be busy sticking pins in my eyes instead.

If you want to see real patina, sneak up on my Buelah! The rust is real and jagged and hurts, and the top coat is peeling off like sunburned skin. Every time I pick some off, more grows. And she ain't house broken yet...she bites!!
If you have old paint, keep it if you want that look, don't fake it over new hoods and fenders. JPL
It's obvious that you know NOTHING about Jonathan Ward and the "Derelict" cars that his organization "ICON" builds from scratch. Jonathan has spotters located throughout the country specifically looking for prospective project cars with that 'perfect' patina that Mother Nature has already installed with perfection in many cases. Ward prides himself in that there is NO artificial PATINA added to ANY of his DERELICTS. If you'll take a few minutes to watch this one, random DERELICT video BELOW, you'll begin to understand exactly what these cars are made of.

https://youtu.be/gwh8KbH0sPA

That "one-off" Merc with electric motor was exactly that .... a CUSTOMER REQUESTED one-off build. Almost all of Jonathan's builds are with blindingly-fast GASOLINE engines, thank you.

Just so happens, here's the Merc in question BEFORE the build. COMPARE THE PATINA before & after!

What Mr. Coopman says is all true, but I still personally dislike "patina" cars.

I usually reject all new trends in the hobby but have to say I have whole heartedly embraced the "patina" trend with my 52 Merc. And I don't mean just keeping it rusty as it came out of the woods. Many hours spent with steel wool and cleaner to get some shine back on the remaining paint and chrome.
