Default Buying a car from South America

Anybody know the process and expense involved in buying a car from South America/Argentina/Brazil, etc? I'm just curious. I'm thinking the red tape and cost would be prohibitive.

In the past many cars have been shipped worldwide from South America, because during the twenties and thirties South American countries were very affluent, and as a consequence received many of the rarer body styles. I am in the process of doing a ground up on a Victoria from Argentina. Although the car looked good in the photos virtually all the running gear had to be replaced because it was basically worn out or very abused. The body work is being undertaken at present and also has been a total piece by piece restoration. From what I have read and from talking to others, this is pretty much typical. The positive is you may be able to get the car of your dreams, the negative, expect to do a ground up, and you won't be disappointed.

Bick Is the Vicky still at the panel beaters !

I have a crack in the guard on the coupe and a few months ago I took the car over to them to get a quote to fix it . The quote was non existent - "depends on what we find when we strip it down " but given how long it's taken them to finish yours I doubt if they'll get the job -Karl

Yes not a lot of progress but what they have done I am pleased with. I can understand why they were reluctant to quote until they had seen what was underneath, I had a replacement set that looked great until we cleaned them off, repairs done a long time ago, ended up using the originals on the rear.
