Got these plug wire tubes with only two holes facing the heads and one on the inside facing the intake. All the others I have has three holes facing the head . What gives?

Re: Plug Wire Tubes
seems like the '42 distributor has 2 wires that have to cross over to the opposite side of the engine.? i don't understand why.

Re: Plug Wire Tubes
These conduits are used with the "crab" dist cap, '42-'44.
The The firing order of the crab cap dictates that two wires must cross. Most hot rodders do this at the cap & dispose of the conduits. |

Re: Plug Wire Tubes
I'll try to get a photo. They are scarce. No doubt got tossed when the wires were serviced.

Re: Plug Wire Tubes
Pete, The 42 you've depicted does not have the correct plug wire tubes.

Re: Plug Wire Tubes
Mike I do not doubt you either, but all the NOS 21a tubes I have do not have a metal cross over (like the Lincoln’s had) local to me there is a super low mileage 42 4 door and it has a tar covered covering over the cross over wires but no metal shield. Page 5-9 of the clubs book states they had a braided heat shield... I’m confused

Maybe you could take a picture under the hood of this "local" car?

Re: Plug Wire Tubes
I can next time I am around it it’s in Nashville a hour from me. I would not wish to use it as a sure fire example. I would like to figure out the confusion in my mind. I’m certain the tubes I have that are 21a are service parts

Re: Plug Wire Tubes
Mike,
The metal tube thing makes since as the Lincoln’s have it, do you have a photo of them with the tube? Somewhere at home I have some photos of the local 42 I’ll see if I can find them as I’m not wanting to drive an hour for a photo. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Plug Wire Tubes
I have a number of NOS parts from a bought out dealership that were replacement parts from when Ford no longer accepted returns I think in the mid 50s.

Re: Plug Wire Tubes
I guess it's entirely possible that I am the confused one here, but whether there is an extra "crossover" hole on the opposite side or not, that still doesn't explain the need for the AWOL front hole for a plug wire to fire the front (#5) cylinder. DD

Re: Plug Wire Tubes
As you can see I have my fair share of these exact tubes in question.

Re: Plug Wire Tubes
I looked in my 1944 Canadian parts catalog. It lists two different conduit versions for the 21A type cap..
21A-12280-B ---RH 21A-12281 --- LH and 21A-12110 Ignition cable conduit (this is obviously a crossover conduit, but it does not say if it is metal like the Lincolns or braided like the Early Ford V-8 41-48 book states) These are listed for 1942-44 It also lists C31A-12281 --LH and C31A- 12280-B -- RH these are listed for 1944 only and obviously likely military |
