B/R Parkway Tourers came by for a visit at the shop
Had several Blue Ridge Parkway Tour folks stop by the shop while on their way from Gatlinburg to Wytheville, VA for their overnite stop. Several of them are 'Barners too! Also got to eat lunch with some of them. We had a good time fellowshipping. I wish we would have taken more photos...

Re: B/R Parkway Tourers came by for a visit at the shop
Brent,
I have been meaning to ask you about your two post lift. Most guys I know with bigger classics are worried the two posts will warp the frame on their cars, and they use four post/ramp type lifts with sliding jacks under the axles. That is, the ones who don't believe the only way to work under a car is lying on concrete with the car on stands. I did see the doors move a bit on a Packard we hoisted on a 2 post, but they came back into position when the car was set on its wheels. I'm sure you have not had any frame bending problem with A's or you would not have one. But I was wondering if an A is so short that the arms on a 2 post can fit to the axles, or is the car so light that positioning the arms under the frame causes no problems? |

Is your shop anywhere close to Memphis?

Re: B/R Parkway Tourers came by for a visit at the shop
I use a 2 post lift for my A's, had to make adaptors for the arms to add height to the lifting pads to compensate for the running boards. I position the front door post in line with the hoist post then the front lift arms grab the frame just ahead of the motor mounts, just clearing the exhaust on the passenger side. The only other thing I notice is the front brake rods are "just" about in the way at this location for the hoist arms, but they are easy to unhook.

The shop looks exceptionaly nice and clean. Good to see pictures of your new motor building equipment and the nicely prepared floors. I know those folks enjoyed their visit.
Good luck with your new motor building venture.

Okay, my wife n I were there ! First thanks a million for giving us your time, advice and a detailed tour. It for me was the highlight of the trip. You and family were gracious hosts. Your place is the Mecca of A Model restoration and hospitality.
