Default 1955 Ford Ranch Wagon Gear Box oil/grease type

I have had this wagon for 30 years and have never changed the oil or grease on the steering box. There are no leaks so far but the steering is a little hard to turn. I have already changed all the front end parts and lubricated all the lubricant points. I am not sure if it uses a Saginaw box or a different type of gear box and I don't know if it uses oil or grease. Can someone here please tell me what to use on this box. Also, how do I put the oil/grease in the box. Do I remove one of the bolts and fill trough there? I also did a wheel alignment on it.
Thanks for your help.

Since my wagon is pre 57, looks like I will be using 90w gear oil. I saw the video on rebuilding the gear box so if I ever need to do it, I have a good idea on how to do it.
Thanks KULTULZ for leading me to the post that discusses this problem.
I very much appreciate it.

Did you read it in it's entirety and specifically why it is recommended to go the lithium grease?

If not, I did you no favor.

There are only certain types of grease that should be used in a steering box. Not sure lithium grease is one of them (note: I did not read the article). Corn Head Grease (Deere) is one of them. It liquifies when used in a situation like gears meshing. There are others that are specifically made for steering boxes. Supposed to be leak inhibiting if you have that problem.

Yeah, I guess that "gear box" can be used for a steering box but to me gear box was always a transmission. Steering "gear" to me meant the whole of the steering system. Maybe I led a sheltered life ??

Okay kultulz definitely not afteran argument, I have a 1950 steering box with a leaking seal, I would really like to fix the problem without pulling the pitman arm (I don't have the right puller).
What ratio Lithium chassis grease to 90W oil would you recommend?
I will not be able to purchase John Deer cornhead grease in this country.

How bad is the leakage? How much play in the sector shaft bushing? Is the seal elongated (worn)? Any binding?

READ HERE - https://www.midweststeering.com/sagi...-which-to-use/

AND HERE - https://www.greasemonkeydirect.com/b...rease-used-for

This is a specialty product. It should be found easily down there.

I would not use CORN-HOLE GREASE on my car and especially a customer's cat. Maybe a FARM-ALL ...
