...And now, off to the tire store...

Hopefully the '39 will be back on the road this afternoon.

B-O-B,

As a matter of fact... that is a jack out of a 1981 Toyota SR-5 Pickup I sold before moving to Florida... The Vice Grip I had to improvise but, it works... You know what I say..."Imagination is more important than knowledge"... LOL

Yep ALSO It's better to be lucky than good. Get a jackstand under that beauty. B T W I like your fedora/sombero. Makes ya look the part of a mooner. I like to make that some year but it always comes when we are migrating south & 1,000 miles in a couple of days is enough for spell. Thanks for the pics & stories/fibs.

B-O-B, out of camera view is another "heavy duty" bottle jack supporting the axle... I may be crazy but I'm not stupid... LOL. The chapeau is a hold over from my days as a LIRR commuter before I moved to Florida 22 years ago... the amazing thing is that it still fits... No fibs here, just maybe an exaggeration or two…

Everything is back to normal (whatever that is) with the '39 CS. The inner tube had a small pinch that was causing a slow air loss... I put the tire and the skirt back on, and now I’m tired… its hell getting’ old…

Progress of a non-Flathead kind is being made once again...

Yesterday the crew showed up to install a drain in the backyard, just beyond the border of what will become the "courtyard", to help alleviate the standing water problem we have had after every rainfall...

in addition to the "catch" tank, 120 feet of 12 inch pipe was installed to direct the collected water down to the "swamp" at one corner of the property...

Now we just need a ton of additional "fill" and gravel base before we can have the bricks put down...

Looking forward to seeing Flatheads mark their territory on the brick courtyard.

Not to be a smart azz but you are going to need TONS of base before you get to the brick/pavers. Must say you have it looking very nice. Hell I couldn't even afford your tax bill.

B-O-B,

They started spreading the base right after I took the photo, you can see some of the pile on the right side of the photo...

Tony,
Come on down...!!!

From what I hear on the news, it's the Burmese Python's that are a growing problem in Central and South Florida.

Must be a good time to buy real estate down there.

Vic,
Why not use dark gray pavers? That way, in the unlikely event that your cars might drip a drop or two of oil, it would not show. LOL

CC33,

Like Lawson said, Gators are a common occurrence however, I've yet to see any Burmese Pythons here in central Florida... the Python situation (so far) has been in the Everglades in south Florida. Swamp land in Florida has always been relatively inexpensive although now, most of it is protected and home to indigenous wildlife as well as some unwelcomed guests.

John,

Oil dripping out of Flatheads is like Vapor Lock, anyone who denies experiencing either has never driven a Flathead further then on and off a trailer.

Over the weekend I was cleaning (yes, cleaning ) out the garage, looking for the original radiator that I took out of the '51 F-1 ten years ago, when we rebuilt the Pickup. As luck would have it, I found the radiator. It had been working when I removed it (we installed a U.S. Radiator as part of the rebuild) so, now I'll take it to the radiator repair shop and have them clean and test it, and have it repaired if necessary. Hopefully I'll have it back in time to install it this Saturday. One thing is for sure, with Flatheads… the fun never ends…

That is as funny as it TRUE! I just tripped over this thread and had to comment - it's fantastic! When in the thread did you move to Florida? We have discussed it as one retirement idea as well. As you said: land near swamps - and now around sink-holes - is cheap! Have you ever heard of that HotRod community near Lake Weir?

I also work from home - cehck out my thread below over at GarageJournal. I LOVE your Zephyr - and the Jag - one of my fave car-styles. Thanks for all your postings!

Hi e-tek,
Thanks for the complements. I've lived in Florida for just over 21 years. Unfortunately, I'm not retired and I don't know anything about a Hot Rod community near Lake Weir. We are planning on holding the 2014 Florida "Barner's Bash" the first weekend in March here in the Tampa Bay Area so, if you are planning a trip to the Sunshine State let us know.

Bad news came today with respect to the original radiator that I took out of the '51 F-1 back when we were redoing the truck... The guy at the radiator shop told me that they found several leaks in it... He said he could patch it but didn't recommend it... His cost to re-core/restore the radiator was up around $600.00 and I can get a "new" one from LMC Truck for half that much... Oh well... Looks like I now know what I'll be doing Saturday...
