Replaced gas tank on my 50 Ford flathead
For your information, I replaced the gas tank on my 50 Ford with a Tanks Inc repro and was surprisingly pleased the with product.
Looks and fits like original tank and it is an exact reproduction quality piece. Also used the 5 screw gas tank sending unit ,followed instruction to cut and fit for my installation, and have accurate readings from empty to full. So if you’re tired of fighting rust contaminated fuel, here’s the solution and accurate fuel readings to boot. |

Re: Replaced gas tank on my 50 Ford flathead
I will second your experience. I put a Tanks Inc tank in my 50 Ford Crestliner last year. As you said, just like Henry made 'em.
Trying to protect my investment, I never use blended fuel and with each fill-up, I add a yellow bottle of HEAT. |

dono50: Glad your new tank and gauge are working so well. Is your car still 6V? If so, how did you get the stock gauge to read accurately using the aftermarket Tanks sender?
I ask this because the stock ford gauge doesn't work on the Ohms Law principle. |

I purchased the 5 screw sender unit from Shoebox Ford on ebay It came with detailed instructions for setting it up. I’ll check and see what other info I can provide. I threw away the instructions. Tank Inc should sell the same sender. Will advise |

When I installed the tank and put in 4 gal it read 1/4, then put an additional 4 gallons and it read 1/2 tank, I’m happy My Drake unit wasn’t even close. |

Re: Replaced gas tank on my 50 Ford flathead
On our '41 with a "tanks" and converted to 12V, I installed an electronic voltage reducer (12-6V from Ron Francis VR-1) and used our stock '41 gauge. worked perfectly. was it "perfectly accurate" thru entire scale? who cares. E-was really empty, fill with 17 gal + or - would register full. close enough for me. who knows if stock set-up was perfectly accurate thru entire scale right from the factory.

Post 2, Tom : never use blended fuel, and add a bottle of heat. Heat is alcohol, so you just made your own blended fuel. Alcohol will absorb moisture, even out of the atmosphere, so you are basically putting water in your new tank

Re: Replaced gas tank on my 50 Ford flathead
Tom....up here where I (and cas3) live, HEAT is used to help melt and dissipate ice crystals or frost, from your vehicle sitting over night with a low amount of fuel in your tank when it’s very cold. When your vehicle is running again, you would keep the tank topped up. Usually not an issue with today’s high pressure fuel injected systems. I don’t think that should be an issue for you where you live. So you are adding alcohol to fuel that already has it in it. You maybe better off trying to find “ ethanol free” fuel. That a very nice looking car in your avatar.......Mark
