I have several brake cross shaft mechanisms for a 35/6...the ones that bolt to the center crossmember out in the storage building. I have some that are used and at least one NOS one. The NOS one is a service part with the grease fitting holes.

48-2470 is the sleeve for the PEDALS that the brake pedal/bushing rotates on and the clutch pedal shaft rotates in. The cross-shaft bushings were originally a steel shell with some kind of fiber material in them. Someone posted on the old Barn the number of bronze bushings from McMaster-Carr that are the proper OD and ID to be align-reamed to fit a new 7/8" shaft. I have the part# at the shop and will try to remember to post it in the morning.

Even if you get lucky and find some nos bushings for your '35/'36 cross shaft there is a better than 10 to 1 chance that you will also need a new shaft. That fiber or whatever Henry used inside the original metal cup bearing, un-oiled for many years, will wear deep grooves in the original shaft. I had posted a write up with pictures on the old ford barn about how I rebuilt some of these cross shafts for my cars using oil impregnated bronze bushings from McMaster-Carr. I reamed the bushings and made new shafts from the correct size bar stock and put Zerk fittings on so that I could grease the bushings as well. The cross shafts are working great and so are my mechanical brakes. Since I don't think we can access the old ford barn archives and I'm not sure if we ever will be able to again, if you send me a PM I will send you all the info I have, including MMC part number for the bearings I used, and some pictures that show all the parts.

ps....If you happen to be building a show car, after the rebuilt cross shaft is completed and painted, no one would ever know the difference between having the bronze bushings Vs. the original bushings.

The cross shaft in my '35 woodie was real bad when I bought the car 10 years ago. Rather than search for bushings, my local engine builder/machinist simply made a new cross shaft and the bushings and added grease fittings to both ends of the casting. Ten years later and it still is nice and tight, working beautifully.
