Default advance rod placement.......

dont remember ever seeing a thread on this. I went to install a steering column on a glass rpu body. finally got the wheel off the column with a sledge-whl was shot anyway. pulled the advance rod out, so I could feed column through the firewall. problem is, how do I get the advance rod back out the bottom end of the column? is there some way to fish it? cant seem to get it when I feed it up by the new wheel.

thanks in advance.

I have drilled a small divot in the end of the rod and used pointed tool to guide it through the hole
