1958 was the first year of the Big Birds! The working convertible top folds completely into the truck compartment to give a super sleek look when cruising with the top down. The 1958 Tbird was equipped with a Ford V8 352 cubic inch engine with a 4 barrel carb sporting 300 horsepower and Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. My Bird also has power steering, power brakes, power windows, power driver’s seat and electric truck release. I read that only 2,134 1958 Thunderbird convertibles were built and they did not go on sale until June 1958. This is a rare Bird! Some internet sources claim that less than 100 are known to exist today.
2010 Restoration focused on engine (87000 miles on rebuilt engine), transmission, brakes, shocks, interior, new top, and new paint in engine compartment and truck area which included: complete rebuild of front end (upper and lower bushings, upper and lower ball joints, idle arm assembly, inner and outer tie rod ends, sway bar kit); engine rebuild (starter solenoid, exhaust & head riser, exhaust manifold locks, battery cable set, clean and rebuild carb, plug wires, points, condenser, distributer cap, rotor, water pump, freeze plugs, engine paint, thermostat, steering belt, fan belt, fuel pump, starter, generator, engine gasket set, engine push rods, radiator hoses, fuel filter); new tires (Universal 8.00-14 4 Ply Polyester Cord Tubeless with 2 ¼” Wide Whitewalls)and new wire wheels, new radio (Jensen VM8013 – USB, R.D.S., IPOD menu, SD Card reader, SAT Ready), amp (DP Audio DA 1200.5, 5 Channel Power Amplifier, 1200 Watts Output), and speakers, rebuilt transmission, new upholstery, seat foam, seat belts, carpet, convertible top and pads, dash, rebuilt power steering and new steering ram cylinder. Just added new starter, Thunderbird floor mats, fire extinguisher, and center console dual cone speaker. Also includes 1958 Thunderbird Shop Manual and 1958 Ford Service Forum No. 8 – Thunderbird Convertible Top Adjustments. The spare Universal Wide Whitewall tire and jack are included.
This 58 Bird runs and drives super and was appraised in 2009 at $19,889.73
