service brake shaft bushing area rebuild
What works best to rebuild the bearings and shaft?
I know what's available from the venders, I just need to know what usually works the best. Should I use brass or nylon bushings? Split or solid? As far as the shaft goes, is it best to build up the shaft or simply press on a sleeve? I don't know if the shaft or bushing (or both) is worn until I remove the old bushing. And i really didn't want to remove the arms, but I will if I have to.

You have nothing to lose by cutting off the old bushing to see what you have and what direction to go. It may be bushing wear and you won't have to remove the arms and replace with split bushings.

What's the best way to remove the old bushing without damaging anything else?

Cut the bushing with a hack saw and replace with split bushing is the easiest. The best way is to remove the arms and rebuild the worn shaft or install brattons sleeve.

I have used a cut off wheel on my Dremel, careful not to nick the shaft.
