Default Removing a dropped akle on my 40.

I bough a 40 Ford that the previous owner had installed a 4" drooped axle and a reversed eye spring to lower the front end. I'm getting to old for that look. I'm about to put the original axle in and keep the reversed eye spring. Is there a market for the drooped axle and some kind of brackets to lower the steering geometry? Every thing was bought from speedway about a year ago. If anyone has done this exchange before, I would like to talk to them.

John, Since your car already has a 4 in. dropped axle, it probably has dropped steering arms also. to install dropped steering arms the stock steering arms have to be cut off (or heated and bent). If it does have dropped steering arms and you want to install the OEM steering arms you will have to get new spindles as the stock steering arm on a 40 Ford is forged as part of the spindle. The 4 in. dropped axle actually only lowers the front end 2 inches and the reverse eyed spring lowers it another inch. I will call you today.

To add more to that, consider keeping the dropped axle(because of the steering arms) and replacing the reversed eye spring with a non-reversed spring AND installing a 3/4" thick spacer between the spring and frame mount. The original U-bolts SHOULD be long enough. That would get your front about 2" up.

Just a thought!

Easiest to get a stock 40 front end …. Tune it up and roll it under as an assembly.
Sell the other as an assembly.

Too old for a dropped axle? There's one I've never heard before.

From the title of the thread I thought you were talking about a dropped ankle. Couldn't figure that out until I opened up the thread.

Question on the same subject, If I put a dropped axle on a 47, does it require dropped spindles with a stock spring?

Mine is not a 47, but when I installed only a reversed eyed spring with the stock axle I did not need dropped steering arms. But,when I installed the 4 in. dropped axle, it did require the use of dropped steering arms. Be sure and get the dropped steering arms that correspond to the drop of your axle.
