MACs at Hershey?
No sign of MACs at Hershey this year! Were they at a new location? New owners saving money? PA tax man put the bite on them? Lousy business in the past? Anybody know?

Re: MACs at Hershey?
Sounds like new management is cracking the whip! Maybe hang on to your last catalog. They may become collector items.

Re: MACs at Hershey?
I found out a few weeks prior to Hershey and was very disappointed when I had to pay $50.00 shipping on my last order. I had planned on picking it up in the red field as I normally do. I promptly called Bob Drake and they were happy to accomodate me.

Mac's is owned by big business, and you, service and quality cannot be measured on the bottom line.

Re: MACs at Hershey?
Rich Macintosh is still at Mac's [one of the orig. owners sons] He asked me lots of questions about my dealings with Mac's and had a clip board taking notes on my comments. He stopped at my spaces and we talked for quite a while. He now works for the new owners. It was generally a pleasant conversation. He knows im picky about what I buy from them and a lot of what they carry I don't buy.Ive been dealing with him for yrs and am a selective buyer.I get most of my stuff from better sources. It was good to run into him again. ken ct.

Re: MACs at Hershey?
I ordered an O ring for the oil pump for my '59 Ford a couple of weeks ago and asked if they could deliver to either Carlisle or Hershey and was told that the new owners aren't doing any shows. So, they shipped the $2.00 O ring and charged me $8.00 shipping.

Re: MACs at Hershey?
Pete,
I agree sad it is sad......BIG Government is the saddest of all. OMHO Charlien Had a nice talk with the Pa. sales tax girl this year.... no surprise gotcha visit or anything close to that....I had my number and ALL my records from Pa. show sales in the last few years. She parted and disappeared around the corner into 'gasoline alley' ! |

Wow, really? They been threatening this, but I thought it was just another government scare tactic. I wasn't able to go this year, but will be back next year. I've been kicking around the idea of doing a "swap only" swap spot. Meaning, none of the parts are for sale for money, but I'll work out a swap are barter deal with you. I don't think this type of transaction is taxable. It may not work, but I think I'm going to try it next year. |

Re: MACs at Hershey?
Some other observations... I usually buy a bunch of cans of spray paint at Hershey. I saw one of the old regulars at Englishtown and asked him where he'd be at Hershey. He started ranting about the "Old Dutchmen" that run Hershey and said he'd never be back. Also, there has usually been a good supply down near the Giant Center and I couldn't find them this year. Came home without any. Also, Eastwood has been absent for many years now. Wonder what their reason is. They're a PA business- taxes should be no problem for them...

Re: MACs at Hershey?
Still love Hershey, but things have changed. I think the folks who are in charge of the Hershey region AACA need to take a close look at their wonderful institution if they want it to continue.
I hope they do and will, but the folks that I've spoken to from this organization don't seem too open to suggestions. |

Re: MACs at Hershey?
Never saw the tax man (nor the lady) in all my years of coming to Hershey. Maybe I was just lucky, as I am sure they are there. Now when I had my own spaces they did hound me through the mail every six months to complete their forms and pay taxes on anything I sold. Now I am using one space that belongs to a friend. This is mainly for driving access into the fields and a parking space where my car will be watched. I lay out a canvas behind my car with some parts tagged with a price and have my cell phone number posted there so people can call me if they are actually interested in buying anything. I really don't care if I don't sell anything as I am mainly there to walk the field to buy things I may need. Also there for the social purpose of meeting up and talking to old friends.

Re: MACs at Hershey?
I did a commercial booth at the York NSRA show for many years and from experience the Penn sales tax people don't play nice. Once you get on their list it's dam near possible to get off. I guess I'll have to die to get that accomplished.

TA, JM.
TA....Swaps and barter are verboten.....if someone benefits it's a taxable situation, I think. JM...she was pretty good looking and mentioned she really goes for tall guys with salt and pepper beards....I sent her right over. Charlie ny |

Where was Eastwood? Not in their usual spot in the Red Field. Pete/Ct.
