Default Windshield Interior Garnish Rails-40 Wagon

Who knows whether the 40 wagon inside garnish rails are supposed to be woodgrained or painted the darker color (brown) of the dash? It is a Deluxe 40 wagon.

Thanks, Phil Swanson

Garnish rails? Exactly what do you mean?

By the way, there is no dark brown on the deluxe dash. That's maroon.

The garnish rail is the trim piece with screws that goes around the inside of the windshield on a 40 woody.

The 3 pieces you are asking should be woodgrained. Never heard the term "garnish rails" is that from the UK?

Here's a photo from a 40 convertible. Same dash and moldings as a deluxe wagon...

The wagon darker color (top) was a brown and not a maroon as used in some other body styles. The darker top color is Briarwood Brown which is available from Drake in a special color mix as is the maroon for many the other body styles.

The term garnish rails probably came from the UK?? Not sure but it is an older automotive term referring to the interior trim pieces of an automobile. Looks like I need to get these (3) windshield pieces woodgrained because the PO painted the brown over them. Thanks.

BZZZ. Wrong answer.

You'd stated you had a '40 deluxe wagon. No Briarwood brown on that dash.
I suppose you could paint it that color if that's what trips your trigger. Judging by your numerous previous posts in regard to your car, it's not like you care what's authentic.

Next question please...

We must agree to disagree on that one. My car is a Deluxe and the dash was originally brown as are many others I have seen. Wagons are not the same. Also on the Deluxe wagon, the garnish rails and inside windshield divider (where the mirror attaches) does not look like your convertible picture at all but is a brown wood grain with black tiger stripes. The tiger striped pattern was only used the one year on the wagon. I have pictures of that from an all correct car and I could e mail them to anyone. Don't ask me to post pictures. I gave up on that.

I know the restoration book says Deluxe cars use Monaida Maroon and Standards use Briarwood Brown and this is true for most all cars. But wagons are an exception. The book does not differentiate wagons from others. Wagons were considered commercial utility vehicles and didn't follow all the "rules." The interior of the wagon was all colored in browns and tans such as seats, brackets, braces etc. A maroon dashboard was never used in my 40 Deluxe wagon. Wagons are definitely unique in many ways.
