Got 7 slats up today(I made 25 new ones out of maple. Don't expect I could find 1/4 sawed basswood anyway. Already had the maple. Few likely to know the difference anyway, not that I hang around with anyone who could tell). 20 #6 SS wood screws in each one. Only 360 more screws to go.

That's so cool. Being a carpenter by trade that is one project that I would love. If I did not have my 4dor Merc I'd love to have a woody ..looking good Randy

Very cool Tex. When I was assembling my '46 Ford "woodie" one of my friends said that putting a "woodie "together was like a giant jigsaw puzzle, meaning all the pieces interlock with mortis and tendon joints. looks like you are having fun. By the way what is with that '29 roadster in the background of one of your pictures?

It is amazing the tightness of fit of all the wood pieces.

Another project I am working on. Still fitting the rumble lid. Have to lift body and add another strip to the top of the frame. Mostly painted.

Randy,
Get yourself a derelict 36-40 4 door sedan.
Cut out that roof section and you're 1/2 way there.
Too many compound curves to attempt it with 41 - 46 bodies.
37 is my personal favourite.

Here is the tailgate back on:

After spending all the money for a tailgate cover and lock I find the cover is a pita to put on and off. Oh well I might change my mind.

I also got a repro right taillight bracket to match the driver's side one. It had one but didn't match. I put some plugs to hide the old holes. Amazing that the tailgate fits perfectly even after I had taken all the wood apart and refinished it.

Here is the one spot of rot of all the wood where the block is:

I got lucky and the side that shows wasn't rotted. There is supposed to be a finger joint there but I am using a biscuit since it doesn't show. I used glass bondo to fill in some of the rot. Also notice the repair on the front end of the same piece. I patched that in so there will be good wood to tack the top material to.

Mrtexas you are amazing. You make the wood working look so easy. I can tell you that it takes a craftsman. Which you truly are. I spent 3 years trying to varnish and refit the wood to my 46. I finally gave up and shipped it to Ron Heiden. Congratulations on the tremendous progress. Gary

Tex ,
You have been doing a great job of restoring the woodie . I feel your pain....did my first woodie , a 35 and basically had to do everything you are going through . The headers needed patch and support , the wood was original ....all ...but needed TLC . It turned out great ,as yours will , and you will be happy with the result . I'm on my fourth .....insane ! Ha . Mick
