Thermostat for 48 f1 truck
Anyone know what the part number would be for a thermostat for my 48 f1 from napa or carquest? Or is it just a standard 180 degree one and i dont have to do this much digging? Thanks. Luke

Re: Thermostat for 48 f1 truck
You need thermostats, what is the engine, a 59a or 8ba? I have a 48 truck engine and it is a 59a, but think the 48 pickups were 8ba.

Re: Thermostat for 48 f1 truck
Per NAPA site that is a 170° thermostat, that is a little on the cool side for a clean and efficient running engine. Needs to be a least 180° and I would want a 185 to 190° myself.

Re: Thermostat for 48 f1 truck
In my studied opinion, the FlowKooler Robertshaw 330-160 is the best thermostat for the 8ba.
It's a high flow thermostat that allows much higher flow in the hot weather for better cooling than the stock thermostats. Yes, even better than the STANTs that I recommend for the 59A. (The Robertshaw's don't work in that engine.) Available from Summit Racing here: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bra-330-160 Also available in 180° and 195° if you like to run hotter than Ford specified. Here's a comparison of the stock thermostat on the left and the Stant/NAPA stat on the right to compare with the Robershaw above: You can tell just by looking which ones let more water through. It may be no big deal in Wisconsin but it sure is in the Rocky Mountains and deserts where I drive.

Re: Thermostat for 48 f1 truck
Well napa didnt have any even close to their location and oreilly said that part number doesnt exist. So needless to say i got alot done on the truck last night but did not get my water necks and thermostats on. JSeery, so if i were to get one from napa with a 180 degree rating what would you recomend?

At O'Reilly you have to ask for the Murray 4157 thermostat: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...chngMnfctr=MCS

Where can i get the flowkooler 330-160? Does it have to be ordered online or do local parts suppliers carry them?

Got mine from Rock Auto for 1994 Subaru Justy. Or, order from Summit as was said earlier. The sooner you order them the sooner they'll be there.

Re: Thermostat for 48 f1 truck
Ok so i bought the thm 111 and got them home and they are not even remotly the correct size. Way too small. I guess i will have to try to return and try one of the other numbers. Dang.

Re: Thermostat for 48 f1 truck
My bad! I copied a list of 'stats from Old Henry's epic thread, not realizing that list was for 59-series. I deleted that post showing the 111 for the 8BA's.
