Most 16" early Ford Steel wheels were 4 1/2" wide. A lot were 4" and a few were 5". I believe the 5" were only used on some late 40s commercial vehicles. These are the hardest to find.

The 16"x 5", 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern wheels came as an option on the Ford 1/2 tons through 1966.... I don't recall the option as being offered after '66 except with the HD split rim option. The majority of F-!/F-100's had 15 x 5 which is basicly the same wheel as the '48 Merc's.

Ford used the 5 x 5.5 bolt pattern on pickups from the model A through 1996 except for the few years of the wide-fives in the '30's.
Same with Ford cars up into the '50's.

40 ford V-8 60 = 16 x 3 1/2
40-41 ford passenger car = 16 x 4
42-48 ford passenger car = 16 x 4 1/2
42-sometime in the 50's pickup = 16 x 5
these were all the inside nub centers that used the old style center caps.

Actually '49 was the changeover year to 5x4.5" for Ford passenger cars.
