Re: Transmission Gears
This may sound silly; but, do you want to attempt to obtain a straight answer?
Very successful Competitive Model A Parts Companies are usually aware of what other Model A Parts Companies are offering and at what price. Also, people who handle and sell watermelons all day long .... and every day .... usually know more about watermelons than people who buy (2) or (3) watermelons a year ...... not too much different with Model A parts. Try calling and ask for Steve at Bert's .... and/or Walt Bratton at Bratton's about Denmark made gears ...... if they know, they will have a truthful opinion. Last edited by H. L. Re: Transmission Gears
One thing that troubles me about buying separate parts is, the parts specs and tolerances held today are not as they were, so when you mix old and new parts together they don't always fit the same. I have heard of problems replacing one gear or the fit and finish not quite as it should be.
Personally, if it were me and I was going to spend that kind of money, I would either get a whole new fresh build from a vendor with a guarantee, or replace all the parts with known NOS parts. There are NOS parts out there, you just need to look around.

Re: Transmission Gears
This is one reason I decided to by a Mitchell transmission, all the parts are new, and they make them. It looks and sounds like a Model A transmission with the added benefit of the syncros and the shorter shifter throw keeps the lever from jamming into my leg.

made model A parts. I buy almost all repo parts from Brattons. It's almost all good stuff except parts were originally forged steel and are now cast iron. |
