Default Gasket seater on intake manifold

I have cleaned up my intake manifold and will be remounting it soon. Is there any need for a gasket sealer on one or both sides of the new gasket?
If so, what do you recommend?
Thanks in advance.

I recommend slathering a nice layer of grease on all gasket and metal surfaces. You'll be glad you did the next time you remove the manifold. And don't forget to clean up the threads, lube them and properly torque and re-torque often. The same recommendation goes for most gaskets.

you dont need a gasket sealer. what you need a a gasket releaser, i use two good coats of silver paint on both sides of the gasket, composition gaskets can be a bear to remove once they are stuck to the block, i dont use grease because it softens the gasket, but use whatever works for you

A good coating of "Never seize" on both sides of the gasket works well. Need to do service, it comes right apart and 9-10 can be reused.

Is that the stuff that is silver, comes in a bottle with a brush, has brown streaks and a little bite goes a long way?

It can also be defined by the fact that if you get a bit of it the size of a pinhead on something, and try to wipe it off, you get a smudge about a square foot in size.

LOL thats why i use silver or gold paint in a spray can, never sieze is like lamp black, get some on your hands and before you get in the house to get it off, it got you covered from head to toe, it was used at the ready mix plant to make concrete black, i would never touch the stuff, lol i seen what it can do, lol

It is good stuff. I use it on head bolt studs, manifold studs, lug nuts etc. A friend gave me a bottle about ten years ago. It is hard to read the writing on the bottle because it is kind of covered with the bottle contents. I never thought of using it on gaskets. I think a bottle should last a lifetime.

I've got a 1 pound can that I've been using for the last 25 years. It's only half empty.

Why? Fuel eats the sealer anyway.

Do not use copper sealer or any type of gasket cement, I did and had to remove intake shortly afterwards and spent a lot of time scraping and removing the gasket, not a fun job. Then I got smart and asked for help on the Barn & took their advice. Thank you Barner's
Gary.

The first time I did one years ago I put Aviation Permatex on it since it looked too thick & heavy to seal well in my way of thinkin at the time. I had to take it off recently and I paid dearly for my lack of knowledge. It took hours of scrapping to get the areas clean again and I noted that it was sealed more than twice as well as it needed to be. Live and Learn.
