Default 1932 floor board sealer

I have searched and read the articles on floor boards but have not found what the best modern day finish is for the boards. I have read the excellent articles on the Ford Barn addressing how to make the boards but sealing them beyond staining is not addressed. DavidG’s book states that they are sealed with a black petroleum sealer. What would be an appropriate substitute today for that sealer?

I used black linseed oil paint on the floor boards I made for my 1937. I had the paint for another project.

Minwax ebony stain is a good substitute. It seals well and gives the desired (original) zero gloss finish. It's what I use.

I agree with DavidG. I purchased a new set of floorboards from Roy Naswics (RIP) years ago and he also recommended the Minwax ebony stain. Had to use 2 or 3 coats to achieve the darker desired color.

Stay Safe,
Pat

A word about floorboards: They were not made of seven ply birch veneer kitchen cabinet grade plywood on a CNC router. From what I've seen, they were made of coarser material and recesses were made using what appear to be massive dado blades.

As mentioned the dark Minwax stain was applied twice over original repaired and sanded floorboards in our commercial vehicle. I was happy with the results.
