1950 ford truck starter
Hello all, i fired up the ol gal today after a 7 plus sleep. The problem that i had a couple times was the starter sticking, rock the truck all good to go again. I talked to my uncle who had the truck for 28 years and he said it always has done it even when my papaw had it. Is there any solution for this problem?

Re: 1950 ford truck starter
Is there a brace from the starter to the block on these like the 8BA's? I had one of those fail and caused the same problem. Just a think'n out loud.

No brace, two bolts going directly thru the starter and two beside the starter on the outside edge into the housing

Re: 1950 ford truck starter
You are supposed to have that little bracket on your starter . Part number is 1A 11140-A. Same as a V8. one side has a long starter bolt thru it and the other goes to an oil pan bolt. A lot were tossed when the starter was changed.

Re: 1950 ford truck starter
You can fabricate one fairly easily. It will keep the starter from flexing when engaging.

Re: 1950 ford truck starter
Dennis Carpenter Ford, which I believe, is his NOS section, has 5 of these in stock. Call 704-786-8139 to get one. It's a hard thing to explain what it looks like. I goes on the long bolt closest to the block and a oil pan bolt closest to the end of the starter.

I tried to copy a pic, but no results. Go to Google and put " 1a 11140-a bracket in the search box. Scroll down the page until you see a starter laying there. The bracket is hanging off the end bolt.

Re: 1950 ford truck starter
I tried a couple of different approaches to this. I didn't have a means to twist and bend a "steel" piece to work. Tried aluminum and it, of course soon failed. Came up with this "double L" configuration that seems to be quite durable.
