Tire mounting
As I get older I forget more. It seems to me the tires have a round dot on them. Is this supposed to be along side of the valve stem or opposite the valve stem? With a black wall tire, is there an inside & outside to the tire? Thanks.

Re: Tire mounting
I just mounted a new blackwall the other day. My brother in law who is an old motorcycle buff told me the blue dot was to line up with the valve stem and mounts on the inside so you don't see it. Know what you mean about forgetting!!!!!!!!!!!!!

according to this, red is the color your interested in. and should line up with valve stem unless you have another low spot on the rim.

Re: Tire mounting
You guys are confirming what I thought but I didn't want to put the new tires on until I had other opinions. Thanks.

Re: Tire mounting
Normally the tire serial number faces the inside of the car, so the cleaner appearing sidewall can be seen.

Re: Tire mounting
If you have white wall tires, the white side usually faces out...

Re: Tire mounting
Kelseys Goodyear tire marks are NOT for balancing. They are factory manufacturing marks. Not sure of the other Model A tire manufacturers but I would assume giving the vehicle application they have no meaning also.

Re: Tire mounting
I don't understand why a dot would be a balancing mark. Is there really that much of a difference in the weight of the valve stem (minus the valve stem hole in the wheel) to make a balancing difference?
I've seen some new tires with dots (of all different colors)...some without...some with multiple dots on the same tire. Are they REALLY for balancing purposes? I've Googled "dots on tires" and there are as many explanations for the dots as there are colors in the rainbow. I guess you can take your pick.
