Default Carburetor Swap

Hey guys, so quick question for you experts. My car has an aftermarket Weber carburetor, and I would like to make the car as original as possible. This means going back to a Zenith Carb. How hard of a swap would that be? I know it wouldn't be just a pop off pop on swap. What would be the benefit of keeping the after market one on the car? I want it as original as possible.

Thanks for all the help y'all have given me.
Trent

A picture of what you have would be good. When someone says Weber I think of a downdraft.

I see you have a 1930 Roadster You will most likely need a Model A intake with a vacuum port. Some of the Model A did not have a vacuum port. It depends if you have an electric wiper or vacuum. If you are making it original as possible, then I would suggest finding a Judging Standards & Restoration Guidelines. Maybe you can borrow one from someone nearby, or these can be purchased from MARC or MAFCA or some of the vendors. You could also cut to the chase, call Steve at Bert's in Colorado and tell him your needs. You mentioned you would like to make the car as original as possible. Are you planning on keeping the non original juice brakes?

Hi tp, I am in your neighborhood. I have model A's with stock Zenith carbs and one with a Weber. Also have zeniths and manifolds on the shelf. You are welcome to come by and look to see what is necessary to switch - and kick some tires. Ken Parker Van Texas.

I believe this is an updraft carb. What is needed for restoring back to original?

Thank you Ken! One free day I’m gonna take you up on that. Work is getting in the way of this hobby of mine!

My plan is to keep the juice brakes for now, maybe later on down the line go back to original. The wipers I have now are electric, but I don’t know if those are original or add ons.

Indeed, per KenParker, your picture shows a Weber two-barrel, down-draft carburetor. (Per Todd j's post, those provide increased airflow over stock carburetors, thus increased horsepower, and are thus considerably desirebale; ~$750 new, should get ~$300-400 for it on eBay).

Switching back to a stock Zenith is, I would say, a 1-2 hour process - I'd put it in the 'easy' category. The only hitch is that, in addition to changing the carburetor, you will also have to switch to a stock intake manifold (all available new from parts suppliers). You may have to have that stock intake manifold that you switch to machined to match your exhaust manifold. This is because, as thicknesses of the bolt flanges on these two parts mate together, they need to be matched, otherwise you may have leaks in one or the other. This is a process that can be done even by a relatively unsophisticated machinist.
