trans grease leaking into flywheel area
just separated eng from bell housing, and to my dismay i saw copious amounts of trans grease (proper 600 wt as is currently available) coming from the openings for the shifting shafts. way more than a little seepage. trans grease level was normal, had this same setup on a while without a problem. venting problem maybe? ain't never happened to me before. thanx for help

There is a vent on the transmission top.

Re: trans grease leaking into flywheel area
I have used a shift rail plug sold by Mike's A 7202 which will stop leakage from the shift rail passage into the bell housing area. Works well, but must be hammered in to allow the shift rails to move forward when required.

Re: trans grease leaking into flywheel area
The 4 studs holding the bearing retainer are not captive and enter into the transmission case; use a sealant like Avation Gasket Cement on the threads before installing.

Re: trans grease leaking into flywheel area
Mitchell Manufacturing, 800-859-2088 or 530-458-4500 of OD Transmission fame, sells a bolt in seal plate that works well. I bought one and am very happy.

Re: trans grease leaking into flywheel area
Snyders sells a kit "Front Tranny Seal" Current Catalog Pg 125 P/N A-7112-S. A little expensive but can be intalled through the inspection plate. I Installed one and it seems to be working fine.
