Default 51 ford speedometer

The speedometer in my 51 ford is making noise. Noise is in speedometer itself and not the cable. It looks like there are four studs with nuts holding it in the dash, and than it would come out the front.
Any advice from someone who has done this would be appreciated, and where to take it for repair. I'm from southern NJ.

once you get the speedo out you will find a small welch plug on top od the speedo, it looks like a small freeze plug, the speedo will be in a housing that you will have to pry it out of, any way, remove the small plug and the felt plug under it, drop a few drops of 3 n 1 oil into the hole and spin the shaft with your fingers, then clean and oil the felt plug with the oil, install and add a few more drops of oil on the felt plug, install the welch plug, now put a small amount of oil on all moving parts in the speedo head, most speedo head noises are caused because the speedo needle shaft gets dry and kind of chatters in the speedo as it turns, lube speedo cable while your at it

You might get lucky & try oiling it with mmo or sewing machine oil or gun oil when you get it out. Becareful to not over oil it.
This outfit advertises repair but have never used them. Might give them a call & ask for references.

You might want to search this forum, there is more information available. Just recently there was one on lubing both the cable and the speedometer head. Chances are you can fix it yourself.
