Default 1949 Mercury - Inner Door Handle

My inner door handle on my '49 Mercury Coupe works so-so.
Upon removal of it; I noticed that the odd shaped spring seems to not be doing its job. Anyone know the proper position of that spring? Pictures? Description of what that spring should be doing?
Thanks

Simple, it keeps the actuator shaft rotated to it's starting position.

Appreciate the photos as my driver handle is sloppy compared to the other doors.

1962300 if you find a source for that spring, please post it. I will soon remove my inner door panel for access to the mirror at which time I'd like to replace any springs in the door latch system. Thanks

Seriously doubt that the spring will do you any good, 1949 Merc. latch system is totally different than '50 and '51 latch system.
'49 uses a rotating round torque rod as opposed to '50-'51 that use a latch pull flat bar.

I have not located a source for the 1949 door handle spring.
I could use one though; being that mine is worn out.
