Default 1937 Cabriolet with Intro (and questions)

My name is Rolf and I am addicted to old Fords.

I have been into hot rods for a long time but I think this car belongs here.

I always liked the art deco styling of the ’37-’38 Fords. I few well placed want ads later and this thing found it’s self in my garage.

1937 Ford Cabriolet. It is an older restoration but it has not seen much action since. It is very stock but a 24 stud flathead, ’39 box and juice brakes makes it a great driver. Just LOVE to drive this thing.

Immediate plans calls for dual exhaust and whitewalls. A spot light on the drivers side post would be cool too me thinks.

Then I plan to drive the wheels off it.

So questions: If I order headers or manifolds for a 1937 car, would they fit this ABA engine? Or any suggestion on what to use for the exhaust manifolds? It looks pretty tight on the drivers side. A stock style with a rear dump would work too. Any advise for a flathead newbie?

Any thoughts on the exhaust? Is there such a thing as a rear dump driver side stock style exhaust manifold? Thanks!

Bob Drake makes a cast exhaust manifold to convert to duals. I think it dumps near the middle and not the end. By the way, great looking car.

Roffeman- Welcome, good looking Cabriolet! Makes me wish I'd kept my black one. Insofar as headers and exhaust, I would check with Red's Headers. Installing spotlight will involve drilling and will probably catch corner of rare dash board. Need to go easy on that. PS Love your "curtain" rod above shade--58 Impala? RPM

Thanks RPM, good point about the dashboard. The spot light is a sexy add-on but I think I would hesitate as well to be drilling in the dash. I probably will just pass. I think whitewalls will make this car anyway.

Yes, the curtain rod is indeed '58 Impala fender trip. Sure beats a generic stick from IKEA

Why does your car have a key, door lock cylinder on the drivers door maybe that was an export right hand drive car imported back from Argentina? Is there also a key lock cylinder on the right side? We are working on a 38 right hand drive from Argintina it also has the lock on the left door .Johnny.

Yes, the car was assembled in Argentina and started life as a right hand drive. It was converted to left hand drive with original parts.

Sometimes the car wants to steer over to the left side all by itself but that may be the bias ply tires

It looks like the reflection in the side of the '37 shows his neat old '32 5 window traditional styled hot rod. Welcome to the open car world Rolf! I was getting ready to ask if you sold the coupe and went back to see the reflection of it, so now I guess the question is are you keeping both? It looks like it might be a nice night to take the new ride up to Clearview tonight too. Looks like a nice add to the fleet, congratulations Rolf !

Great looking car, how about a pair of fender skirts? Congratulations , must be great to go into the garage and see that.
Looking forward to seeing more.

Well, this will answer Uncle Buck's question as well: I sold my '32 as I did not enjoy driving it. The car in the reflection is the super secret "Rolf Coupe" 2.0 built for a customer. It is basically same as my first model A hot rod but this one is shiny black with a nasty roller cammed built to the hilt 425 Nailhead. Not Ford barn material but it has been kept under wraps as the owner would like to do unveil in some sort of official way.

I would have never thought that. Now you are going to enjoy having an open car - even here in Washington !

Naa, with the short wheel base on the '32 and tight cockpit it was not comfortable for me. Besides, since I did not build the car and I would have to blow it apart to make it mine.

I have always owned 60's convertibles and I miss the open feel. To have a classy vintage Ford and to be open at the same time is just great.

Wow. That's slick.

You might consider adding the stainless spear to the running board. It would give it a really nice lower accent. I'm guessing it was an Argentinian delete.

Uh, more shiny stuff!! I like it. The foot board rubber has been replaced so I think it did not make it back on. I will look in to it. Thanks.

Hi Rolf. The car looks absolutely stunning. The 37 styling is a grower for sure - but once the eye becomes accustomed, it's a lovely simple look with great clarity and simplicity.

Very nice.

Mart.
