Luggage Trunk Bracket

Just a quick question for you all who have rear mounted trunks (with no spare tire) on your Town Sedans. I have a 1930 Town Sedan with two side mounts.
The car had a metal trunk in the rear. I decided to upgrade to a nicer looking wood box. Ordered a curved back black one from Snyders and mounted it yesterday. Here's the question.....when i open the lid, I can't open it far enough for the lid stay to hold the lid up. The lid hits the car body before the lid stay can lock and hold the lid up/open. Is this normal? I don't see any way to adjust the mounting brackets. (See pic) Thanks for any input/guidance.

You will probably have to get the extensions that Snyders sells as well.

I thought that the extension was used if you also had a rear mounted spare?

Altho I have a spare tire on the back, I think if you "sandwich" the trunk mount between the bumper mounts (see picture) you may be able to slide it backward some. Also my inner bumper mount is flipped over compared to yours, which moves the bumperette out from under the trunk rack. I think if you play with your configuration your should be able to get it to work out for you.

It is possible you have the wrong rear bumper brackets. Originally there were several different lengths. Available reproduction brackets do not represent all the different length variations that were available from the factory. The other big difference between reproductions and originals is that originals were spring steel and most reproductions are not spring steel.

Put a small block of wood (maybe 1/2' thick or 1' thick) running across the back side under the trunk. It'll tilt it outward just slightly and you will be able to open the lid. I have had 3 different trunks on my sedan and this is what I have had to do with all 3.

On some of that type of "hold open brackets", it is possible to modify them for a shorter stroke. The lid will not open quite as much but will stay open.
