Carburetor question.
A friend has a 1914 T. It has an NH carburetor on it. We disassembled the fuel lines and sediment bowl, and cleaned out all the little rust and crud problems. We installed a new carb on the car, and it started up. But it is blowing black smoke from the exhaust badly. What could be wrong with the carb.???

Re: Carburetor question.
The needle valve is the only adjustment on the Holley NH type carburetor. It has to be open some to run the car but it may be open a little too far. Most adjustments of it are done after the engine is warmed up with the choke fully open.
If the float valve is sticking then it will likely start dripping fuel out but it could run rich. Any internal leakage could cause a rich condition but there isn't much to leak in there. vacuum leaks would cause a lean condition so that isn't as likely. |
