Mallory Dual - Point Distributor
This may have been asked before. Has anyone seen any gains or improvements when using the distributor? I acquired one that is brand new and was curious, opinions etc...

Re: Mallory Dual - Point Distributor
I bought one brand new in the '70's and cycled it through two different cars; ran it on my '29 CC on a trip from Cincinnati-Dallas-Florida and back (along with a Mallory Supercoil). Worked flawlessly but I never felt that the car ran better than with a rebuilt stock ignition. Not sure that hotter spark makes much difference at 2300 RPM's. Also, with the limited RPM range, I've never seen much advantage to auto advance over manual.

As slow as these 'A's turn I see no need for a dual point. The coil will be fully saturated and make it's hottest spark that the coil is capable of with out 'extra' dwell time from dual points. So distributor rpm is 1/2 the crankshaft speed of 2800 or so rpms and is not HIGH rpm's. Please see the 'Coil Polarity' thread and post from the MG Club of Chicago for their take on coils. skip.
