Dash grommets for choke and throttle
I received 2 new grommets to install around the choke and throttle rods, as there are none in the dash currently. The new grommets are sliced in order to allow installation over the rods. Great. But what is proving difficult is getting the grommets to fit into the dash itself. I can barely get them halfway in and they will not budge further!
Any advice or experience doing this would be appreciated! Last edited by highbeams; 07-30-2023 at 09:50 PM. |

Smear a little Vaseline on them...Around the edges but not in the hole...

Good one. I've found CRC or WD40 useful for making rubber parts fit too.

They are tighter than a bulls you know what at fly time as it's like trying to get a square peg in a round hole. I finally ended up using a socket that would fit over the knobs which allowed me to put pressure on 360 degrees of the grommet which helped to relieve the extreme stress it causes on your paws. There are lots of little problems like this on these old gems. Good luck. |

I've used Silicone Spray for this same problem and they slip right in without making a mess.

Re: Dash grommets for choke and throttle
I had to file the hole a little bit, when i got it in the horse shoe clip was way to thin and soft just folded when trying to slide it on, i had an orig clip that worked.
