The bottom of a 1940 Ford 1/2 ton pickup bed is metal. There is wood underneath the metal. Those truck you see with pretty wood beds have been modified.

Are you asking about the original wood under the bed, or custom style? If custom, just look at the many custom beds in Ebay listings or on Pinterest. It can vary and might need to be to your specific preference. Kits are available.

If your looking to install a custom exposed wood bed (not the stock wood under metal) PM me. I made some drawings when I did mine.

interesting-didnt know the bed is metal. in that case I guess I am good.

havent seen the truck in awhile and picking up in about 2 weeks.

one more question..... rear pass fender is ripped up pretty bad. will a car fender fit or is the pu completely different? they sell glass ones, which I really dont want and the metal ones avail seem to be exorbitant. I have the front half of the rear fender, but back half is gone- as if jaws ate it! not against adapting a back half of a pass car fender, if it will look "normal"
