Default power valve leaks

Some of the power valve leaking problems are caused by the gasket not seating down flat due to the large radius at the bottom of the threaded stem. I saw a post sometime ago (I think by CharlieNY) how he machines a flat surface for the gasket to seat on. I don't have a metal lathe so made a wooden "nest" on my wood lathe. The PV body metal is soft so the flat surface can be cut with a wood working parting tool. John

If you use the correct size gasket this operation is unnecsssory as they dont ride up on the radius which is what happens when the id is too small, get the correct size gaskets.OMO. ken ct. Or you can buy PV's WITHOUT this radius on them.

One slip of the parting tool and it's all over. I suppose you could make a round rod with 1/2-27 fine internal threads to "chuck up" the PV in a drill press.

Yea its a cheap way of making a dummy power valve or block off the spark valve opening with one. ken ct.

Don't use such a hard gasket and it will conform to the curve. I never had to machine one. G.M.

Old Ford,
I'm fortunate in having a nice Austrian lathe with a range of collets.
I gingerly grasp the PV by the threads in a .500 dia collet and machine the gasket face
square with the threads. This requires the use of a 'parting' tool, believe me if I can
do it anybody can do it. I make my own nylon gaskets from medium durometer
nylon .As Ken and George mention...the gasket is critical.
