Default 32-36 main bearings

I always assumed the main bearings on the 32 to mid 36 were poured babbit bearings. Now while going through my extra stuff I find a bunch these. What can you fellows tell me about them. Thanks Bill

I believe they were used to install the early crank in a later engine.

Those bearings do look extra thick which would support what flatjack is thinking. Also some '35's and '36's had insert instead of poured mains.

They're meant to be used with the 18-prefix ('32-'36) crankshafts originally used with poured babbit main bearing blocks in the 68-prefix LB (large insert bearing) blocks introduced during the 1936 model year on a partial production basis. Needless to say they aren't much in demand given the smaller bearing surfaces they have.

I have a couple sets of those thick bearings used. As the others say, there made so to use the 2in. main bearing babbitt cranks in the 36LB and 37 and early 38, 21 stud block. I think during the war, WW2 you couldn't get cranks for the 36-7-8 block so thay made those thick bearings to use the earlier cranks. Walt
