Where do you go to get wide 5 brake drums turned? I live out in the boonies and the local shop (that turns brake drums) looked at me like I was nuts. Can a regular machine shop that turns cranks etc do them?

The fronts are real straight forward, ANY shop should be able to do them... The rears just require a smaller mandrel, MOST shops and even more older ones will have the mandrel- small enough- 3/4"? to go thru the hub... I would call around locally... Karl

I brought mine to a Lentz brake shop.It took the guy a while but he found the right mandrels and did them while I waited.

I take mine to a shop that works on heavy trucks, semi's, straight trucks, farm trucks.....they will be able to turn them. Any shop that does light vehicle repair should be able to trun the fronts.

I have a drum lathe that will do the rears. Want to bring them to WV??

All the places I went to only had one mandrel LOL About an inch. Does anyone make new wide five drums, or are then only 5x 5 1/2?

Hey Cecil, I have about 20 '36-'39 W5 drums and maybe 10 '35 5 on 5-1/2 drums that all need turning. I just loaded all of them on my truck and I'm on my way up to your place now. I should arrive there at around supper time
