Re: Any old school fender repairmen around
A guy in Riverside made me some patch panel parts for one of my 51 Merc cars for a decent price and he did me a good job but he is clear down in Riverside. That's a ways away from you. Townsend's Customs is his company. The mountains sort of box you in. I don't know whether the Frisco bay area, LA, or Los Vegas is closer. There are bound to be some coachwork shops around one of those areas. Some regular old body men will surprise a person about their capabilities.

All it takes is time or money, so I’ve been working on this for awhile.
Some before and after pics, not finished but some progress. |

Metal Meister in Ventura CA. A true master at metal, panel beating, fabricating and stainless repair. He can unfold the bead ,replace the wire ,clean out the rust and reform. Super nice guy. His hourly rates are very fair. However be aware that in true metal work, the hours add up quickly.

Re: Any old school fender repairmen around
Thanks all, it will end up taking a bit of fill. But I’m thinking I might try my hand at lead work. This car has never seen any Bondo, and I think she would hate me if I tried to put any on her.

Re: Any old school fender repairmen around
Very little. Some more work on the lip maybe. The Metal finish work is superb. Maybe some feather fill or high build primer after the sealer.

Re: Any old school fender repairmen around
There is nothing wrong with a bit of filler. They make spray polyester now days so you spray it on like primer. If the metal is straight enough, that's all that is needed. It's just like the old lacquer primer filler in a way. When the filler gets thicker than 1/16" or so the it becomes something that may be a problem if the car sets out in the sun for long periods of time. If the filler is in the mil thickness range then it's not much different than paint.

I have used Allan, The Metal Meister on several auto related projects, I have to ditto everything that is stated in the above quote.. The last time I talked to Allan, about three months ago, he told me he was trying to sell his business so he could retire. I know of another first class metal man in Piru, CA, Ellery Engle. Ellery does the same class of work as Allan, he has done three vehicles for me in the last fifteen years. PM me if you want more info...
