Default 34 pickup grill lacing

Hey guys, I need some help with the lacing that goes on a 34 pickup grill shell.
I've got a couple grill shells and neither have the old lacing on them.
There is only one hole midway down on each side for a rivet it appears, and it appears I'm missing connect hardware top and bottom.
Does anyone have a good pic or two of how the lacing is fastened ?
Id sure appreciate it ..
Cheers from Dallas

the lacing on my 34 BB has a metal tab on either end that fits into a slot by the radiator cap and another one down by the fender. these get bent over to keep it in place.

Sounds like you have it figured out. The j hooks should have two holes for a split rivet to connect the lacing. Once I got the right length and fastened the hooks, I found that putting the hooks into the slots with the lacing loose towards the engine and then pulling the lacing over the edge of the radiator gave the best fit.

Might the welt for a 32 Ford do the job? It uses a similar bent hook/split rivet design.

It is the same cowl and hood welting used on all '32s. The original material had a hard core, but the available replacement has a relatively soft core, which means that over time the hood will 'sink' and the belt rail moldings will no longer line up with those on the hood.

On my (fiberglass) roadster I originally used the replacement for original style, knowing the shape change issues (stretching in length, shrinking in girth) I made the lengths about 3" short. Then pulled with about 200 lbs force (yes I weight that much) to tension the lacing to snap into the slots. I did not need to shim under the lacing but it can be done with fabric strips during fitting or to compensate for wear, for a "permanent" fudge make a "sweep" with the profile needed for clearance and indexing to the grille, or cowl, add and shape a filler of "bondo" with the sweep... once painted only the most discerning of judges would notice. This lasted well for about 10 years until replaced by rubber cord (an experiment, as we had customers who wanted hard lacing to shape the hood as David noted, but did not like the look of fabric).

I have seen 34 Pickup s with the round one on the grill supplied by the vendors as a 34 kit ,this shows at the front edge of the hood ,I made some attempts to get (orig ) Macs to rectify this ,

Ive got round lacing on the cowl, and flat lacing on the grill .

And Hi Ted,
man Ive installed 5 or 6 sets of your brake kits, absolute love them, if I didnt tell yu, youd sware I had hydraulics.
Such a great up grade for all early Fords.

O and I had to order a lace kit to get the "J" hooks , kit says 32 33 and 34 pickup grill shell lace, and the lacing is round .
