Spare tire bracket 28-29

I am installing steel fenders on a customers RPU that had glass fenders. I found a pic that says the point on the triangle bracket should be pointed towards the rear. This was opposite. It also has a slight dish in it where it mounts to the arm. No L or R designation on it. What does a factory 28-29 triangle bracket look like installed and does it in fact point to the rear like this photo?

That plate is angled forward on 1930-31 Model A's, but is straight up and down on 1928-29's with side wells. The point of the plate is at the bottom. Make sure you have the correct side arm, as they are different between the '28-29 and '30-31 Model A's.

Maybe these comparison photos will help you determine which side mount arm and plate you have. The almost-assembled car shown is a 1929 Murray Town Sedan with dual side mounts. Note the plate orientation, as well as the length and shape of the two arms.

By the way, if you have the incorrect '30-31 side arm, mount and plate instead of what you need for your '28-29 Model A, I have a complete new set-up that has never been installed. See the want ads from two weeks ago. Less than 1/2 price from ordering the same thing. Shipping cost only added.

Looks like the customer has the wrong triangle plate but correct arm. Is this a ‘30-‘31 plate?

Can't tell for sure from you picture but think you have a 1930-31 mounting plate. Most obvious difference is the angle of the center slot.

Good news for the poster if only the plate is wrong on his side mount setup. He can order just the plate needed from Snyder's @ $10.95 + S & H:

Because the '28-29 plate's slot is vertical, it can be used on either side, unlike the '30-31 plates, whose slot is angled, meaning there is a left and right plate.

Marshall V. Daut's photo, (post #2) show the bottom end of the support bracket as being vertical, and his photos (post 3) show it as being horizontal. Are they from different years? Different applications?
