32 3W restoration shop
I am looking for a quality (Dearborn quality) restoration shop in the south east US. I have a complete car, the engine is completely done. The rest of the car is nice it just needs complete disassembly, paint, some body metal work, upholstery, paint and assembly.I Am looking for referrals from satisfied customers. Thanks, Bob Wolfenden 310 261 4699 or [email protected]

I like the way you say it "just needs complete disassembly, paint, and some body metal work, upholstery, paint and assembly" I hope you have deep pockets!
Do you have any idea how much work that is? |

2000+ hrs on my 37 stake basket case. It was my grandfathers truck, he taught me to drive in it. No way I'd have done it otherwise...

Re: 32 3W restoration shop
Apparently he knows what he wants, he didn't ask 'what does it cost' and he didn't ask 'what should I do' or 'what would you do'...he wants a Dearborn quality restored car.
Based on his email address, Flying Colors Group is in to commercial real estate, so perhaps he has the pockets required to pay for the work but not the time to do it himself. |

Re: 32 3W restoration shop
...its amazing how some of these threads get misconstrued; but anyway, I think in this day and age, to get a 32 3 window done "right", you need to gather all the information you can, talk to references(past or present customers of a particular shop), possibly visit the shop beforehand, and be prepared to take your car whatever distance is necessary. Just my 2 cents....

Brizio's would certainly be one to consider. They do it all, and the work is truly amazing. Take a look at his Web site to see some photos of cars that have rolled out of his shop. Some would say it's the best on the west coast.

Guys, read the OP. He is looking for a shop in the south east US, not west coast.

Re: 32 3W restoration shop
Tim - we did read the OP and his desired location. No need to yell about it.
The guy is looking for a shop that will do a level of work, and that narrows down the field considerably. Brizio's customers are from all over the world. Many east and mid west customers. For the $$ involved, transport out here is cheap, plus the piece of mind of doing business with a shop with Brizio's reputation.

I could understanding the OP wanting a particular region for adding flight cost to the resto cost could add up to a significant additional cost. Not sure transportation is cheap either. I just got a quote today from Horseless Carriage to bring a car from the West Coast to the East Coast. $2,500 one way. For the OP, that would be an additional $5K on top of the resto. |

Re: 32 3W restoration shop
Probably the best shop in the Southeast is Johnson's Hot Rod Shop in Gadsden Alabama. He has won Ridler awards for the builds he has done. He does not advertise as a restoration shop but he has done lots of 32 Fords so I'm sure he can put one back the way Henry did it and their work is flawless.

Re: 32 3W restoration shop
I can't imagine a street rod shop doing the work required. I have visions of plastic shackle bushings, all stainless fasteners, Ron Francis wiring, etc. You would need knowledge of the different clamps, bolts, welting, finishes, routings, to do the car justice. On top of every thing else, there are so many running changes in 32's that it takes a lifetime to even know there is trouble. There were three styles of 3W handles I believe and probably two of everything else. You would need to build to a specific build date. The factory crossover pipe is a strange thing. Extreamly tight corner at the manifold. Never repo-ed correctly that I know of.

Looks like a lot of people on this form would go to a proctologist to have a heart valve replaced.

Re: 32 3W restoration shop
Wrong coast, too far away, but...
Nick Alexander Restorations... I assume his shop is still doing them. And, cars that he has turned out have a running reputation of getting 1000 or darn close, first time out (at EFV8 National meets). Dearborn awards were never a problem for his restorations. Last time I was there, a few years ago, he had a pretty good stock of original, stock 32 stuff, too. |

Re: 32 3W restoration shop
Automotive Restorations in Lebanon NJ does Pebble Beach level work. They did the 1932 Ford w Pinin Farina cabrolet body that went to peble beach, took 1st in class, start to finish in less than 6 months. Car sold in 2013 for over $319,000.
