GM tilt columns. It's one thing to buy an aftermarket "GM-styled" column, but to rip one right out of a van or a Firebird and shove it in a nice car is unforgivable.

There's a REALLY nice '40 coupe in my area. Sheridan blue with a red interior. Beautiful car EXCEPT for the 1980's Firebird column in it with the Firebird wheel still on it! You have brought great shame upon yourself, sir.

Firebird steering wheels aside, is there really an aesthetic difference between a real GM column and a repro?

The thing that kills me is the column key switch. That thing HAS to go.

The chunky turn signal/tilt levers for one. The aftermarkets are a little bit easier on the eye.

Yeah, I agree. I guess it depends on what vintage column we're talking about. An early one (pre-1970) isn't so bad.

Put me down with the GM column crowd. For that matter anything GM on a Ford.
Can someone tell me why they do it? What's wrong with a Ford unit.

Digital gauges and radio display

Dials with needles seems soooo much more appropriate

I pretty much agree with all of the above. I had quite a few Chevs in my younger years, some of them pretty neat. (Wish I still had that 63 SS convert 409-425!) I NEVER put any Ford parts on them, and I worked in a Ford dealership in those years, so I don't understand this Chev everything stuff. We still have a bunch of Ford units, in spite of the "new stuff". I'm constantly reminded that I am "just a Ford guy", and that I'm not very smart because of it. Then comes arguments, cause I have been known to speak first, and think later. Oh well, it's a cross we carry to drive a better built car or truck.
Another thing I don't get is buying an old car/truck, and making the undercarriage and drivetrain like a new one. Just buy a new vehicle if that's what you want.

How about "top chopping" original cars.....hard to put back with just a wrench.

Personally, a part of me dies when I see a 350 Chevy in place of where a nice flatty used to be.

Torque tube rear ends.
They may look cool and are traditional but they are just a pain in the neck to work on. An open drive shaft would have been one of Henry's better ideas.
