Default 1934 Water Pump Leak - Rebuild?

Could someone shed some light on the symptoms of a bad water pump and if a rebuild is required?

Noticed a small puddle of coolant under the radiator area once after a week of sitting. Curiosity led me to believe that there is an incremental leak coming from the bottom side pulley area of the water pump as shown below and drips onto the inlet hose and then to grade.

Any advice? Does this require a water pump rebuild or do I need to add grease to the fitting? Please school me in this area.

Don't think grease will help you there. It looks like a leaky pump. It should be dry all the time. Send them off to Skip Haney to be rebuilt.

These early pumps are getting more rare. I'd say wait till winter and send of to skip. But you are in texas.

To me the bushings are shot. If you have equipment you could do them. I use the regular propellers.

More likely the seal which is up inside the recess in the pulley area. Rebuild kits are available which consist of bushes, seal, shaft and impeller. Or always some new old replacement pumps on the ebay. Or better still new pumps with improved impeller, sealed bearings and improved performance (shift more water). Bob Drake, Macs, and others have them for around $80.00 each. Skip Haney ( in Florida) can rebuild yours for better performance. But your pump is worn out. Regards, Kevin.

What you show is a 36 water pump. If your going for a rebuild and want something more correct for 34 ask skip if he has cores to rebuild. or contact Fryer's from the V8 Times. Skips pumps need to be greased every so often Fryer's do not.

Or buy a new one from Dennis Carpenter which is identical to what you have.

Default 1934 Water Pump Leak - Rebuild?

Thank you all for the feedback.

I’ve reached out to Skip and it could be one or two options. Either the seal is bad or there could be an internal crack in which case he would replace the housing.

Since it’s an incremental drip right now, I’ll be pulling both water pumps in late fall to inspect the inside of the bad pump and then determine a path forward to either have Skip rebuild both pumps and replace the internals with new/improved impellers or just replace the seal in the bad pump. I would like to keep both pumps as original as possible.

Will update this message topic later this year around November.

The pump you have pictured is a '35-'36 because of the temp gauge bulb port.Skip might have the correct core or cores .As per what Tinker said the 33-34 pumps are getting hard to find.
